Mar del Plata - Las Chacras stream

Mar del Plata is a city located on the southeastern coast of the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It has a total area of 79.48 km2 and a population density of about 7,500 inhabitants per square kilometre.

Mar del Plata was crossed by nearly ten watercourses among which the following stand out, "Del Barco", "Las Chacras", "Los Patos", "Del Tigre" and "El Cardalito"

Nowadays underneath the city there are 400 Km of interconnected storm drains, similar to the distance from Buenos Aires to Mar del Plata. through wich the water drains and runs into the sea every time it rains.

Mar del Plata in its beginnings was crossed by three streams characterising it with a green and natural landscape far from today's urban profile

The first inhabitants of this city took this streams into account for their daily activities

In the history of Mar del Plata the flooding due to the overflowing of the Las Chacras stream in 1913 meant that boats had to be used to cross the street in San Martín.

Today this stream is piped except in the park of "La casa sobre el arroyo".
